Homework takes two hours, and most of it is you re-explaining.

Class 8 was fine. Then Class 9 marks dropped, with no obvious reason.

In fifteen years I have never met a child who was bad at maths. What I meet, almost every time, is one concept from an earlier year that never got fixed — and maths is the one subject where a small hole quietly turns into a wall.

Maths is cumulative, and that is why I keep saying this to parents: a gap in Class 7 fractions becomes a gap in Class 9 algebra, then a gap in the board paper. Every term you wait, the same repair takes me longer and costs you more. I would rather fix it cheaply now than expensively in Class 10.

How I teach

Why first, formula second — in this order, every time

Most tuition starts with today's chapter. That is why it stops working around Class 9: the chapter was never the problem. Here is what I do instead.

STEP 01

I find the hole

My first week is a chapter-wise check that traces backwards — sometimes as far as Class VI — until I know precisely which concept broke first.

STEP 02

I teach the why

The idea comes before the formula. If your child cannot explain in their own words why a method works, I don't consider it learnt — it has only been memorised, and memory is the first thing to fail in an exam hall.

STEP 03

I drill it to automatic

Weekly worksheets aimed at that exact weak spot, until the step happens without thinking and your child's attention is free for the hard part of the question.

STEP 04

I test it under pressure

Timed papers, marked by me, with every error analysed — so the score in the exam hall matches the score at the study table.

It is not magic and it is not a shortcut. It is the difference between a child who can do the sums they have seen, and a child who can do the sums they haven't.

The teacher

I'm Ruchi Gupta

I did my M.Sc. in Mathematics and my B.Ed. because I wanted both halves of the job — knowing the subject deeply, and knowing how to put it into a thirteen-year-old's head. That was fifteen years and a few hundred children ago.

What I actually do is unglamorous. I find where it broke, I go back and fix it properly, and I don't move on until your child can explain it back in their own words. It is slower in week one and much faster by month three.

One thing I'll say plainly, because it is the reason most parents stay: I teach every batch myself. No assistants, no substitute faculty, nobody else standing in when I'm busy. Your child is taught by the same teacher every day, in a room of six.

What exactly happens in the free demo week?

Your child attends a full week of real classes with my batch — not a staged sales lesson. At the end of the week I give you a short written note on which concepts are missing and roughly how long they will take to fix. It is free, there is no card, no registration fee and no obligation. The note is yours to keep even if you enrol somewhere else. One week is the whole trial I offer.

What are your fees?

They depend on the class and on whether your child attends in person or online. I'll tell you the exact figure in my first WhatsApp reply — I won't make you visit to find out. I'm not the cheapest option in Aligarh or Dera Bassi, and with six children a batch I can't be.

My child is very weak in maths. Will they cope in your batch?

That is exactly who I built this for. My first week goes on finding which earlier concepts are missing, and I rebuild those before touching current chapters. A child who is behind gets more of my attention, not less — that is the whole point of stopping at six.

Do your online classes really work as well?

Online children join the same live batch, taught by me, with the same cap of six. I call on them by name and make them explain their working, exactly like the children in the room. What they miss is the informal after-class doubt chat, so I give online students a separate weekly doubt slot instead.

What if we miss a class?

Join that week's online batch instead, or take the recorded explanation and the worksheet. Let the centre know in advance and I'll check the missed topic with your child in the next doubt session.

Do you teach Science too?

No. Mathematics only, Classes VI to X. Teaching one subject well is a deliberate choice, and it is the reason a maths teacher of fifteen years is standing in front of your child instead of a generalist.

Which boards do you cover?

CBSE mainly, and state board syllabi for Classes VI to X. Send your child's school and board on WhatsApp and I'll confirm before the free week starts.

My child's exams are close. Is it too late to join?

Send the exact number of weeks left and I'll give an honest answer on whether it is worth starting. Sometimes that answer is to wait for the next term — you'll get it straight, not as a sales pitch.
